There are many cake makers across the Greensboro area and many of them are very reputable and highly professional. You will want to take into account a number of elements when you start your research and begin to evaluate potential cake makers. One of the first sources you could check is very close to you. Ask for recommendations from your friends, family, or acquaintances. One little detail that not many people even know to ask about is something called a food hygiene certificate. All bakers should have one of these. Just in case something happens to your cake en route, you might want to ask if they have insurance.
If a baker you are interested in is really popular, you will want to make a decision quickly because their calendar will fill up quickly. You may need to start at least a year in advance of your wedding date believe it or not. Also, keep in mind that if your wedding is at a really busy time of the year for weddings, you will really want to check into bakers that you want as quickly as you know your date. When you approach your potential cake maker you will want to check if your date is open on their calendar as your first order of business. Also, be ready with other information like your theme, color scheme, and how many guests are coming to your wedding.
Make sure you know ahead of time whether this will cost you anything, some bakers charge and some don't. During the consultation, you will be able to taste sample cakes and discuss in depth the design issues you are interested in. Look at some of their portfolio and notice what you like and what you don't like and have some honest discussions with your potential cake maker. As you discuss your options and what you are interested, make sure they seem to be understanding your vision. Are they interested in what you have to say? If they seem to be more interested in their own ideas than in incorporating yours, then we suggest you work with someone else that pays attention to you.
